Wednesday evening, I read that the CDC had approved the Pfizer vaccine for 5-11 year olds.  Good news. I’m guardian to my 6-yo granddaughter, and we’ve been hoping for this.

Thursday at 9:30 AM, I got a TXT from her school district. It said to check your email for news about vaccines. I was sitting in a dentist’s chair at 9:30, so…

Thursday at 10:15 AM, I got home and checked my email. Our county Department of Health would be holding a vaccine clinic for 5-11 year olds on Friday and Saturday. I signed up for 11:20 Saturday morning.

Thursday at 6:30 PM, I received a message saying the clinics were full. More to be scheduled soon. Also, local drug stores have available shots.

Saturday at 11:34 AM, she’s had the shot. Got a free book and a lollipop. We’ve waited our 15 minutes and we’re headed out the door.

It’s nice when it all works out. New York State got the vaccines sent out in advance and Tompkins County Health Dept got ready. They staffed up with extra help. People were chatting with children, helping those that needed a little extra comfort, giving out snacks, crayons, coloring sheets, and some free books. We picked up “My Father’s Dragon”.

Flu shot is next week.
